Wet Basements

WARNING:
DISCHARGING OF RAINWATER OR GROUNDWATER INTO A SEWER OR SEPTIC SYSTEM EITHER BY GRAVITY OR WITH A SUMP PUMP IS NOT ALLOWED IN ALMOST ALL MUNICIPALITIES. IT IS CONSIDERED A POOR PLUMBING PRACTICE AND CAN RESULT IN AN UNEXPECTED FLOOD INSIDE YOUR HOME OF RAINWATER OR GROUNDWATER THAT HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH YOUR SEWER PIPING, CREATING A POTENTIAL HEALTH HAZARD TO THE OCCUPANTS.
Storm Systems Gravity-First is our philosophy at Dyna Mole. In other words, if a storm/rainwater/groundwater system was originally designed to work by gravity and discharge to a public storm system, we repair that system to work by gravity whenever possible. Sounds simple enough - but that's not what many of our competitors do.

Keep in mind that a deluge of rainwater or groundwater pouring through your basement walls is like no other leak. It comes in an unlimited supply and you just can't turn off the water. You have to deal with it in real time at whatever the flow is.

What we see frequently is a costly repair that was performed on an originally-built gravity system that was redesigned and converted to depend on a SUMP PUMP. Sump pumps have their place, but if the system was originally designed to work by gravity alone - that's by far the preferred and most dependable method.

Sump pumps require electricity. In a heavy rainstorm, your home may experience a power outage. To ensure the incoming water will be taken away during a power loss, it then becomes necessary to add a back-up sump pump (with alarm) that is driven by water pressure or by a battery. When you're on vacation, who will hear that alarm and will they know what to do? Will anyone notice the flood in your basement?

Gravity-First systems do not rely on electrical power. They use gravity and are therefore the most reliable system one can have. Unlike electricity, gravity is always there and always working for you. Whether you're home, or at work or away on vacation, your home is better equipped to deal with water entering your basement while you're away.

Basement floods can ruin furnaces, washers and dryers, flooring materials, any valuables that come in contact with the water and foster potentially unhealthy mold.

Most insurance companies will not cover losses due to rainwater. Does yours?

Before you agree to have someone open your basement floors and install drains around the perimeter of the basement that terminate to a sump pump for a cost of $10,000 - $20,000 - CALL US for a second opinion. Let's see if there's a way to get gravity working for you instead of against you where water has to be pushed uphill by a sump pump to discharge outside. Don't agree to a result that merely pours that pumped water on top of the ground where it can freeze during the winter and create walkway hazards for your family, guests and passers-by.
